2nd of August has become the date of a press conference dedicated to the organization and conduction of the World Construction Championship III to be held in Saint Petersburg, Russia, from 17th till 20th of October, 2023. Modern technologies have become the main subject of the ongoing event. The event was established by the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation and State Atomic Energy Corporation on 20th of February, 2020; since 2022 it is supported by “Russia, the Opportunity Country” platform.
The event has involved Mr. Alexander Lomakin, First Deputy Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation; Mr. Alexey Agafonov, the First Deputy General Director of “Russia, the Opportunity Country”, Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization (ANCO); Ms. Maria Kornilova, Commissioner of the Central Headquarters of the Russia’s Student Teams; Mr. Yuri Mironov, Expert of the SKOLKOVO Foundation; and Ken Young, an eco-architect and the ambassador of the ongoing event. Colleagues have discussed the importance of the World Construction Championship III in the context of advanced development of the construction industry and building of long-term partnership relations between specialized research institutes, universities and businesses in different countries.
The Deputy Minister has announced the enlargement of the nomination list with the civil engineering industry and involvement of the School League in the competition block. He has also encouraged the industry representatives to participate in the Championship.
“Take a glance at the results. Within the first five months of this year, construction volumes have reached 4.3 trillion of rubles, while they had counted 3.7 trillion rubles in the same period of the previous year. These are not abstract figures. Despite external reasons, the construction industry is developing in a comprehensive way. This is, among the other things, the merit of the Championship. Talented young people take part in such competitions. They have are involved in interesting projects and use digital technologies, which allow us increasing productivity and minimizing costs.”
Mr. Alexey Agafonov noted that federal competitions formed a talented pool, since because young talented specialists applied for participation, and their mastery of knowledge engineering methods became a driver of the industry development.
“The Championship will help every contestant to realize his or her talent and professional potential. We raise the prestige of the profession, involve students and schoolchildren, who get a good start, cash prizes to implement their business ideas, and the opportunities to explore our country owing to the program named “More than a Journey”
During the press conference, Ms. Maria Kornilova, Commissioner of the Central Headquarters of the Russia’s Student Teams, was speaking about involvement of students in international and domestic construction projects. Thus, the Student Teams staff, as Ms. Maria noted, has increased by 22% compared to 2022.
“This knowledge and intellectual equipment will be taken by the best fighters in order to participate in the Student League competitions at the World Construction Championship. We treat it as a meeting point for students from all over the country, a place where they can share their energy with each other, prove themselves, and get not only financial encouragement, but also a prestigious job.”
Mr. Ken Yang, the Malaysian eco-architect and supporter of bio-climatic approach in the construction, spoke on construction of ecologic sky-scrapers in metropolises and his expectations related to young people.
“In recent years, the eco-approach to overcoming the current environmental crisis has begun to find its reactions, but is still not sufficiently implemented by industry professionals. I am convinced that ecological aspects of environmental protection should be taught to all students in construction-related fields of education from the very beginning of their classes.”
Mr. Yury Mironov, the expert and mentor of the special technology scouting project created by the Championship in cooperation with the SKOLKOVO Foundation, spoke about the current status of project implementation:
“We have received about 300 applications from candidate startups. Among them we have found solutions related to activating design processes, as well as digital technologies in construction, robotic automation, including those using artificial intelligence. I would also like to point out that the mentioned projects often have cross-sectorial nature. There have been applications from the projects created for other industries that could be used in construction. This is a positive trend, modeling additional opportunities for increasing the efficiency and productivity of the construction industry through the experience of competence of other industries.”
